“The only reasonable way to achieve these goals is with a millage rate increase.”

- Kerry Hatcher,
Candidate for Bibb School Board

Over the last year, Kerry Hatcher has repeatedly called for an increase in tax rates for Macon-Bibb’s residents at a time when costs are skyrocketing, families are struggling to put food on the table and too many people are struggling to make ends meet.

In 2025, Hatcher even started a petition to urge Bibb School Board members to raise property taxes. (cite)

Below are screenshots from Hatcher’s personal blog advocating for a property tax increase:

From his blog posts and social media to his public comments to the school board, Hatcher has made it clear that improving the school system's efficiency and keeping costs down are not his priorities. He sees raising property taxes as the ONLY solution. He wants to “build a war chest” on the backs of Macon-Bibb families.

We don’t need another politician who thinks raising property taxes is the solution – we need someone who will stand up for us. Macon-Bibb can’t afford Kerry Hatcher and his plan to raise taxes and increase costs for families.

In his own words…

  • “Bibb County’s education millage rate has not increased in many years. In fact, for the past 6 years straight, the Board has rolled back the millage…”

  • “...I support a 2 mill increase in the school tax rate (from 16.72 to 18.72 mills)...”

  • “For context, this is one of the lowest school tax rates among comparable Georgia counties…”

  • “...I’d rather increase now…”

  • “We can’t legally raise the sales tax beyond the penny, so the only levers left are cutting spending (which we’ve done to an extent) or adjusting the millage…”
